Life Sciences and Medicine
Welcome!
As a published research scientist, I understand the importance of good English in science communication. Badly written English can mean the difference between a pass or a fail for students, or can determine whether or not your paper is accepted by a high-impact journal.
Understanding how to communicate well in science isn't just about having a good command of the English language, a strong background in science is also important. Here is a little bit about my career in science and language editing.
Education
- DPhil in Clinical Medicine (Green Templeton College, Oxford University)
- BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry (University of St Andrews)
Research
I have worked in several research laboratories within Oxford University for over 10 years. In that time, I have published my own research in peer-reviewed journals and have won prizes for both oral and written presentations. My areas of expertise include metabolism, diabetes, endocrinology, and cancer.
Copy editing/language editing
-
Journals
I receive manuscripts that are scientifically worthy of publication but that have been written by authors who have English as a second language. I edit the language to get it up to a standard acceptable for publication.
I offer services editing journal manuscripts for language as well as content, ensuring consistency and quality throughout. I work to specific journal style guidelines and strict deadlines.
-
Books
I copy edit and proofread life science/medical text books prior to publication. I regularly work for large publishing companies and also take on projects from independent publishers. I have worked on a variety of subjects, including medical sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, psychology, physiology, biology, and food sciences.
-
Other documents
I have also experience editing other types of documents, including dissertations, theses, and grant applications and offer a high standard for all projects I take on.
My combined knowledge and experience in both science and language inspires confidence in the service I provide.
